Can I request an I-551 stamp if we are approved on the spot? (marriage-based AOS)

My EAD card renewal has not been processed yet and I have been out of work for a while so I am eager to return as soon as possible. This option was suggested to me by a USCIS tier 1 officer when I talked to them on the phone a few days ago. Has anyone been able to pull this off?

I-551 is evidence of permanent residence and not applicable for EAD (given before you get your GC)

It depends on the officer. If they pretty much approve it but wants to "look it over" later that day before approving, you won't be able to get an I-551 stamp.
