  • Received an update, expected for I-485 but it is for old I-765

I received a text from USCIS saying that they updated my case, that I need to go online and check it.

I was expecting either something about the I-485 or approval for the current I-765 renewal (this will be my third EAD), but no, the update is:
Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken
for the first I-765 they received almost 3 years ago (EAD approved more than 2 years ago).

I have never seen anything like this before. Any idea if this means something or just a glitch in the matrix?

Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

May be they used your old fingerprints to issue new EAD? I have seen that happen to people who have given their biometric prior, USCIS just used previous ones instead of calling you for another bio appointment. Try to chat with EMMA and they should be able to tell you!

      Hi Enub4,

Not a glitch. My existing fingerprints/biometric were used for the removal of conditions in 2020 and to process my naturalization application in 2021. It seems to be a strategy used since COVID. Either way it is a practical one as our fingerprints are unique to us and should never change. All the best.

SmithB thank you, but they updated an old case number, that they already approved back in 2019 and that EAD already expired.

Hotaru-Grace yes, I have received that update on the I-765 renewals, that is normal, what is not normal is that they update a case number that they already approved back in 2019. The card was received back in March 2019 and was only valid for 1 year. Two renewals later (new case numbers) it doesn't make sense that they update an old (approved) I-765 case.

Sorry I was not clear before, I hope now is clear. In other words:
        - case SRC19xxxxxxx I-765 approved in March 2019
        - case SRC20xxxxxxx I-765 approved in March 2020 (renewal)
        - case SRC21xxxxxxx I-765 approved in January 2021 (renewal)
Now the update is for case SRC19xxxxxx I-765.
