  • Changed jobs and GC approved before filing Supp-J. Is it problem?

    >>> Employer A filed for Supp-J in Nov 27, 2023 and it got approved on Dec 26, 2023.
    >>> More than a year later, Employer A laid me off on Feb 17, 2025. I found a job with another employer by Mar 17, 2025 under similar job category but never filed supp-J. The new employer said they would respond if asked by USCIS as filing supp-J is not mandatory.
    >>> 2 weeks later, my I485 was approved on Mar 30, 2025 without any additional documentation checks. Changed a couple of jobs after getting the green card.

Question>>>>: Since I never filed for supp-J in the new job which I got on Mar 17, 2025, will it cause me any issues when I apply for citizenship?

    Hi,
If your I-485 has been pending 180 days or more, and The new job is in the same or similar occupational classification as the one in the I-140, then your green card remains valid even if you change employers.
And it wont impact your naturalization process. Please keep maintaining documents for all your employment related. It will help at the time of naturalization process.
    Thanks

Will the officer ask for Supp-J or other filed records during naturalization?
If at interview I am asked the question “Was I ever working “illegally” or without authorization” is the answer No?

        Hi,
        Please see my answers below.
Will the officer ask for Supp-J or other filed records during naturalization?
Answer: yes. There is a possibility. That's why i suggested to keep all your employment history records. It will surely help at that time of interview. But when you are not required to file Supplement J, it is not required to record too.

If at interview I am asked the question “Was I ever working “illegally” or without authorization” is the answer No?
Answer: you were not worked Illegally. Please go through this : ( If your I-485 has been pending 180 days or more, and The new job is in the same or similar occupational classification as the one in the I-140, then your green card remains valid even if you change employers)
        Thanks
