Priority Current, Not yet filed 485?

My PD is December 2007, and it has been current for more than 3 months now. As am between projects, employer is dithering on filing my 485. How much time does one have to file 485, once the PD is current?

Please advice.

Say, if my employer is not keen to file my 485 can i switch my employer and carry my I140 to a new employer?

Also, my H1 will expire by this october. Would i get another extension based on my I140, when my PD is current? Wouldn't there be a query why i have not filed my 485?
