  • Qustion about Temporary Extension of Greencard

Hi everyone, I have lived in the US for 10 years and my green card will be expiring in April, 2013. Normally I will file for I-90 again to renew my green card. But here's the problem I have, I would like to travel abroad during the month of May and I also like to apply for citizenship. Because there will be a fee for renewing green card and neutralization process. My questions are:

    1) Is it possible to extend my green card temporary, at least after May 2013, so I can come back and apply for citizenship? If so, what would be the fee?

    2) If I apply for citizenship now, will I be able to travel abroad during the process of application?

    3) Is there any other possible way to get around this? I would like to avoid paying both fees at the same time.

Please extend your help as much as you can. I really appreciate it. Let me know if you need additional info.

    Thanks very much

You really need to pay both fees, if you need to travel around that time.

There is no such as thing as temporary renewal of green card.

Generally, traveling during the time naturalization application is pending itself is not a problem. However, if your green card has already expired, you need to get that renewed first.
