  • Name Change

I am divorced and I have changed my name back to my maiden name and that name is in my new passport. Problem is my Green Card has old married name on it.

My Green Card expires next year in September and it is too soon to renew. I really don't want to replace the GC until I can renew which will be March at the soonest. However, I am travelling this December.

Anyone think I will have a problem travelling with my new passport and my green card along with my old expired passport with the former married name?

I was reading replacement of GC (I-90) form and got worried because it sounds like you have to replace your GC if you have a change of name.

    Thanks!

    Be carefull

It is best to have both documents with the same name.
Your green card expire in sept. Sounds like you have only a conditional greencard and just divorce.
If that is the case, you have to know that you will be required to submit an aplication I-751 90 days prior to the cards expiration. Since you are divorced you will have to apply for a waiver from the joint petition. I wouldn't worry about the name right now, I will just gother documents to show that the marriage was bonafied.
    Good luck to you
