My husband got his 485 approval in Feb this year and we got our passport stamped as well. He was then laid-off in April ,after working for that company for 5 years with a 13 week severance. He has since been working at a new job. I, his beneficiary, got my card from TSC within 3 weeks of stamping, in March, However, my husband has not yet received his card. Can we travel to Mumbai, India and back without any problems? Do immigration officials in Mumbai and US understand that an I-551 stamp is equivalent to a PR card? Another reason I am concerned is that since he was laid-off soon after he got his GC, could they question the fact that a GC is for future job and since his employer laid him off, that premise is in question? Also, what can we do about his card?

    Any input is appreciated.

Layoff after I485 approval is OK. Make sure you have kept the termination notice letter and that it is dated after I485 approval date.

I551 is enough for entering US. You may want to make sure you have 6 months available but I am not sure this is mandatory. If you belong to TSC, maybe go there and possibly fill I89 again, get new stamp.
