Hello,
Im writing this to see if i can apply to sponsor my mother to come stay with us here from Viet Nam. My parents came here in 2003 under my uncle's sponsorship. My mother decided to move back to Viet Nam and gave up her green card. In May 2013 she applied for a B1 visa to come help me with my newborn baby. During the interview, the consular officer told my mom that in order for them to issue the B1 visa for my mom, she had to abandon her green card which was still valid at that time ( she was issued a 10 year green card when she first got here). They also said that once she abandoned her GC, she wont be able to re-apply to be US resident again. Im just wondering if its true ? Even if i want to sponsor her to come here? Any inputs would be appreciated.
Thank you
LS
