Green Card file on I-94. L1 B expired ?

My L1 B visa is already expired and I am living on I-94 which is valid untill March-2015.Can my employer file my Green Card on the basis of I-94 or is it required to first apply my L1 B Visa extension and then only my employer can file my GC?

When you say you are living on I-94, I assume that your L1 visa stamp has expired but your L1 status (based on the petition) is still valid.

If yes, you are in the US legally and your employer can sponsor your green card.
