Can one change employment in about 4 months after getting the GC stamped on the passport but not yet receiving the plastic card?

Also, does anyone know if INS sends some letter to the employers to verify employment before sending the card? Do they try to verify employment using any other means?

From what I have understood...
You are free to change jobs after you report to work for your company who sponsored your "green card" (i.e. right after the I-551 stamp) . INS sends the plastic card to the address that was mentioned at the immigrant visa approval document you carried to the POE. I don't think they send any verification letter to the sponsoring company.

But there is something to be understood here. The company who sponsored you for your permanent residence, has done it in "good faith" that you will continue to serve your employer after getting the green card. Thats the main reason behind the employment based green card. Similarly, you should work with the same company in "good faith". If you left the company too soon ( less than 2 years ), you must have documentation proof of the reason for leaving. Because at the time of applying for citizenship, INS will enquire about your reason for leaving. Lets say your company laid you off, or that the company's future seemed too dark, hence you were forced to leave. These may be some good reasons. But INS can start a fruad case if they are convinced that you stayed with your green card sponsoring company just to obtain your permanent residence and abandoned it soon after that.
