My perminent resident card expires in October 2015 and I'm planning my renewal. I wanted to file my application online, however, on the USCIS is says you can only e-file if your card expires within a 6 month period. On the other hand I have been reading that processing the renewal application can easily take longer than 6 months and since I travel outside of the country a lot for work I can't afford to get stuck in limbo with an expired card while waiting for a new card.
So I could file the paper application... Does anyone have experience with processing time for paper applications vs. e-file? Is it worth waiting until the 6 month period starts or is it safer to file via paper now? Any advice would be appreciated.
