  • Some questions regarding a Green Card

    Hello

I am a French citizen married to an American woman, we have 3 children with French and US passports (the last one is born in the UK)
In 2006, we moved to the USA and I got a Green Card through marriage.
In 2010, we moved to the UK.

I plan to travel to the US in April 2015 with my family for the first time since I left (so almost 5 years ago)
I was told I could run into problems at the US customs as my Green Card may not be valid anymore.

    My questions:
Is there a risk of me being rejected by the customs if I do nothing?
Does it make sense for me to apply for a "reentry permit" as I read it online?
Or should I take an appointment at the US Consulate in London to officially "abandon" my Green Card?
If I abandon my GC, would it compromise my chances of getting a new one (through marriage) if we decide to move back to the US one of those days?

Thanks in advance for your answers
    Best Regards
    Frederic

YOU MUST HAVE A VISA OR VISA WAIVER STATUS TO ENTER THE U.S., SINCE YOUR GREEN CARD STATUS CAN NOW BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED.

Does it make sense for me to apply for a "reentry permit" as I read it online?

SINCE YOUR GREEN CARD STATUS HAS BEEN ABANDONED, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A REENTRY PERMIT

Or should I take an appointment at the US Consulate in London to officially "abandon" my Green Card?

WHY BOTHER WITH THAT, UNLESS YOU WANT A CERTAINTY THAT YOUR US. VISITOR VISA OR ESTA STATUS WILL BE RECOGNIZED WHEN ENTERING THE US.?

If I abandon my GC, would it compromise my chances of getting a new one (through marriage) if we decide to move back to the US one of those days?

YOU'VE ALREADY ABANDONED YOUR GREEN CARD STATUS BY STAYING OUT OF THE US. FOR MORE THAN ONE YEAR WITHOUT A REENTRY PERMIT (WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR ONLY A MAXIMUM OF TWO YEARS).

Thanks in advance for your answers
    Best Regards
    Frederic

      Thank you very much Rayb

      It confirmed what I thought.

Given that I am French, I understood that I have a Visa Waiver Status.

Since I have a green card, I have been filling a tax statement every year (jointly with my wife) even since we left the US, don't I need an official document to be discharged of completing a US tax return?
