Hello all, this will be my first post.
I received my conditions-removed 10-year Greencard at the beginning of December 2005. I'm a Canadian citizen who married a born and bred Texan. My whole permanent resident application process went relatively smoothly. I never had a lawyer and I think I saved a ton of money by not retaining one.
Anyhow, my question involves communication between the USCIS and Homeland Security. I went home for Christmas at the end of December for a 2 week vacation. While I was going through Pearson airport in Toronto to return home to Dallas, I received the dreaded yellow folder where my passport, greencard, and customs declaration were placed. I was shuffled off to the Homeland Security office and told that they didn't have my "new" greencard on file.
I explained that I just received my new 10-year card at the beginning of December which replaced my old 2-year card that had the conditions. The officer proceeded to tell me that they only have my "old" 2-year card on file because the USCIS and Homeland Security are now separate entities and they don't have access to each others records.
That seemed a little bewildering to me seeing as that is essentially what happened with the intelligence breakdown leading up to 9/11 (CIA, FBI, and NSA didn't share intelligence with one and other).
Has this happened to anybody else, and if so, what did you do to get Homeland Security to recognize your new card? I don't want to go through this hassle everytime I visit my family back in Canada. I travel home a lot.
Thanks for the help. :-)
