Re-entry Question

Hi,

Here is the sitiuation for my brother:

Mar 2014 - Applied for the Re entry Permit for 2 years
April 2014 - Finger print
May 2014 - Leave the country , re entry permit has not come yet
Jul 2014 - Got the re entry permit, with date of expiry Jul 2016
Dec 2015 -send the re entry permit to my brother in India

Since my brohter leave in May 2014, two year complete in May 2016.
Does he has to enter USA before May 2016 or Jul 2016? Jul 2016 is the expiry date of Entry permit.

Please advise.

The two-year expiration was based on the issuance date of the Reentry Permit. If your brother stays out beyond two years from his U.S. departure, he risks being considered to have abandoned his Permanent Resident status, regardless of the Reentry Permit expiration.
