  • Help. Working Abroad

My wife and I recently moved to Japan. Me being a US citizen and her being from Mexico, she currently has a LPR (Greencard) and travel back to Chicago every 5 months to maintain her status. She also has a re-entry permit.

My question is can she work part-time here in Japan while I am abroad. Should she work abroad will this effect her LPR? Or application for citizenship when that time comes? Chicago is our home but while I am here she would like to work...

Another question is would it be possible for anyone to know if she did?

Any advice or legal references would be much appreciated. Should you need more info about the situation please let me know.

    Best!

Anyone? Consulted multiple lawyers and I guess the consensus was it could effect her LPR.

It does appear that she is abandoning her LPR as she is no longer intends to be a bona-fide resident of the United States

It's no big deal, in the sense that she can acquire LPR again if revoked, since she will remain married to a US citizen

Ideally, she would invest 3 years of her life after acquiring LPR maintaining US residency until she can naturalize, after which she no longer will have the responsibilities LPR's have in maintaining their residency
