  • getting a divorce with a temporary green card

hey guys , so my situation is this. I came to the United States 3.5 years ago for my wife to live with here and build something together. After being married for 2 years I attained my conditional green card. But things weren't working out between us anymore and now she told me she want to break up with me. (think she meant divorce) My only concern is that I left my whole life for her and now that the date of my green card renewal and removing my conditions of being married with a USC will be lifted. I am afraid that together with losing her I will lose also what I have built here during these years. Anyone has gone through a similar situation?

You can apply for Removal of Conditions by yourself after divorce.

Also, you said "After being married for 2 years I attained my conditional green card"; if you were married for 2 years on the day you became a permanent resident (the "resident since" date on your card), then you should have become a non-conditional permanent resident, and if you got a 2-year card that is a mistake and should be corrected.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

SO the situation was this. It was 1 year and 11 months but still they gave me a conditional GC. I just want to get this over with. Apparently I have become this stranger for my soon to be ex wife.

Just collect as much evidence of bona fide marriage as you can now and be prepared to apply for Removal of Conditions after divorce.

Thank you. I still have the evidence from my first interview. And we havent really started the process yet. But you know I want to be prepared in case my soon to be ex wife decides to do something against me .
