  • tax file documnet filing seperately with married status

    hi,
i am applying for 10 years green card from my 2 years conditional GC.
I and my wife have filed tax seperately with married status.
what happens when i send this document with I-751..

It certainly doesn't further the adjudicators impression of your marital union compared to filing MFJ. That said, joint finances are but one piece of evidence, and the decision will be made in light of the totality of the evidence you furnish.

It will not affect anything. My husband and I have always filled separately with married status. I filed 4 years after we got married and received my 10 years. Now im just waiting to see who I can apply for my citizenship

Married Filing Jointly is almost always better tax-wise than Married Filing Separately. If it isn't for your case, or there's some other reason to file separately, be prepared to explain it.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
