  • Colombia and back to the USwith expired PR card and i-797 receipt?

Good afternoon. I have an urgent trip for a sick family member.

Do you guys know if I'll have problems entering Colombia, boarding flight to back US and then entering US with the i-797 Notice of Action receipt and expired card?

USCIS said this is all I need but I read on forums that some airlines will not accept that. Also the CPB website says that if I have an expired card and i-797 receipt that I will be "considered" for boarding. Wording leave it up to the airline....

If the airlines refuse me the only other 2 options I found is one - to file form I-131A (boarding foil?) at an embassy or US consulate (but its $575!). The second is to ask the airline to call "CBP liaisons" to clarify the requirements but it looks like they don't do that from what I read on the forums. I appreciate any help!

You have a receipt for what application?

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

can you get the I551 stamp on the passport? i think that is a stamp proving extension of the green card while you wait for the permanent green card...
I would be afraid of flying just with the i-797.. best of luck Colombiano

        Hi there,

to be clear, you green card is a 10-year permanent resident card and not a conditional permanent resident card, correct? If I were you, I would make an InfoPass appointment ASAP, bring your Colombian passport along and kindly request a I-551 stamp. It's temporary proof that you are a permanent resident and usually valid for 1 year. I would also bring plane tickets and any other evidence of your need for travel.

If you are in a city with a very busy field office, it might be a challenge to secure an infopass appointment. Remember that you are able to go to other cities. That is fine. Some states have several even within the same county. Dade county, FL is one of them. You can use two google extensions to speed up getting the infopass appointment. Those are Visualping and Super auto refresh. Google "How to get an appointment on infopass"; just like that in quotation marks and it will be the first search result. Here is the link but it will likely be blocked. http://www. ******** ***.com/forums/...t-on-infopass/

I would also have https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ bookmarked on your phone's browser, so that you can log onto your account and show it to the airline agent if needed. You will be at an airport with WiFi, of course. Call USCIS on speaker phone if you need to. And look like a business person that day. "Come te ven, te tratan" Don't forget that. Best lesson I ever learned from my grandmother. You've got this. Make it work!

        Best of luck!
