  • Travel back to US with expired Green Card and i797 NOA Extension

    Hi,

I am planning to travel to Peru next month. My US Green Card is currently expired but I do have a i797 extension to extend my Green Card for next 1 year. My immigration attorney mentioned that there is no concern traveling and getting entry back to US with my immigration status. I am still scared if airlines staff in LIMA airport will allow me to board the US plane with my I797 extension. I am flying Copa airlines. I would highly appreciate any inputs if any of you have traveled from LIMA to USA in similar situation. Thank you in advance!

    Regards,

    Suresh

Are you doing I-751 Removal of Conditions because you had a 2-year conditional green card? Or are you simply renewing an expired 10-year green card with I-90?

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

You are good to travel in and out of the US with your expired GC and the extension. Make sure to bring them both with you. I just got back to the U.S. from Vietnam. All airline staff and Customs in Vietnam and China where I transfer got confused but finally they let me go.

Why don't you make an Infopass appointment and get the I-551 stamp?
