  • Mistakenly Entered in B2 Instead of Green Card

In a very Very rare situation. My Mom who traveled alone, confused and tired, did not submit her GC at port of entry :-(. She got her green card about 2 years back, but also had valid multiple entry B2 visa. She provided only the passport and the immi officer thinking that she is still on B2 , got her admission for 6 months (PP stamped). Will this be a problem ? she had both "valid" B2 and also valid GC at the time of entry. Will she have to leave within the 6 months time frame or does she need to adjust/rectify this with USCIS now . Please advice !

Get it rectified at nearest deferred inspection office

She should rectify this right away, as this could jeopardize her green card status as USCIS could consider her as having ?abandoned? the green card. I don?t want to scare you; stuff like this happens quite often it seems, but it?s better to get this taken care of as soon as possible. She should return to the Deferred Inspection office of CBP at the airport where she entered (or the closest CBP Deferred Inspection office) and explain the error. They should then update the record in their internal system, as well as her passport.
