  • --Un-conditional GC Mailed to Old Address-Now What?

    This is the situation:
I live in Fremont,CA and applied in CA Serv Center for I-751 and was approved, but my Un-conditional GC was mailed to OLD Address. Of course, I moved, so i got nothing now.

    • 5/31/2006: My un-conditional Green card (through I-751) was approved.
    • 7/18/2006, I updated the following new address with California Service Center on the same month
    - They update the address for me nicely and are aware of the I-751 status. I also filed AR-11 to change my address in the same month.
    • 8/4/2006, the green card was mailed to my OLD address per USCIS. But I do not have it because I moved.
    -Today is 9/15/2006

What is the best way to locate the Green card, and mail to my new address?

A)Do nothing. Wait for it to be returned and to re-mailed to my new address.
    B) Apply for G-731 (Inquiry About Status of I-551 Alien Registration Card ) to locate the green card. ( Because the I-90 application has a 7-8 months backlog)
C)I-90 (Application to Replace Permanent Resident)to issue a greencard that is never received.
    D) Apply for both G-731 and I-90 at the same time
    E) Your advise

Have you checked online? did you do a request with your post office to forward your mail , to your new address ? The post office only forwards mail for a limited time, after which they either continue to delive rit to the old address or send it back. If you didnt request for your mail to be forwarded, then it was delivered to your old address and either retained/destroyed or returned by the new occupants. I am somewaht confused though by your dates........are you saying it was mailed , albeit to your old address, three months after it was approved?

    (a) works only if it was in fact returned by the post offcie or the person at your old address AND if you make the request for it to be remailed.
    (b) a simple check online will do that. if it has not been returned to USCIS, its pointless as they wouldnt know where it is. If it has been returned, simply write a letter asking that it be resent to your new address. From my personal experience, do not call, write!!!
    (c) I dont think you can do it unless it has indeed been lost, you could only determine that if it has not been returned. If it has not been returned, report it as lost or stolen (although I think you ahve to wait either 30 or 60 days) and request a new one.
    (d) see above.
    (E) see (B) and (c) or if its not too far away, go there and see if the new owners/occupants have it

welcome notice mailed but changed address

I'm kinda in the same predicament. I filed in the California Service Center too. I applied for the mail forwarding service at my local post office but I'm still worried that I won't get my welcome notice nor my greencard. I read that some service centers put a "Do Not Forward" or Return Service Requested stamp on their envelopes. If this is the case the post office will not forward the mail to you. I am hoping that the California Service Center sends it on a plain envelope. I called the toll free number but they said to wait 30 days... Any advice??

      Thanks
      Marisol
