About leaving for india

I have my gc from last 2 yrs. I want to move to india for acouple of yrs for my families sake. How long can I stay outside the US? I have no plans of applying for citizenship here in the us. After staying outside the us for more than 2 yrs ,can I again take a reentry permit and stay away ? Thanks.

You can apply for re-entry permit and stay outside the US for upto 2 years. Dont think you can extend the re-entry permit beyond 2 years. 2 years is a long time, in that time if you land up with a fantastic permanent job you may not want to come back at all. If things dont work out, you still have 2 years to decide.
