problems with emmigration check/passport control while leaving India

I faced a weird situation few months back while returning from India. I have a green card and have traveled all over the world with it. While returning from India (mumbai) on a recent trip, the passport control officer at emmigration check started harrasing me about my green card saying that he is not convinced that this is a genuine green card.
It took me 20 mins of arguements and convincing to finally let this guy allow me to go through passport control. I almost missed my flight in the process.
I know the new green cards don't look very impressive? Has anyone faced situations like this before?
If situation like this arises again, can anyone advise me about what to do?

ask to speak o his supervisor. The GC's look pretty impressive with seals and pictures etc.

Maybe that guy was in a bad mood or looking for ana easy mark.
if 20 mts made you late i guess you started out with little margin to begin with

Making money

The guy was just trying to make some money for himself. This does happen once in a while.

Now, of course, I assume that your permanent resident card is in good shape, no damaged, bent, broken or water/moisture damaged.

As the esteemed senior member Waitin_TooLong mentioned, you didn't leave much time for issues. You need to keep ample time for emergencies and other issues.

Do try not to confront the person in India but try to get the name and then make an official complaint to the Indian and US authorities.
