Green Card leaving and returning to USA

My wife just recently got her green card and wish to return to her home counrtry of Mongolia to visit family and her son. First question is does she need a US Passport on her travel? Second is she wants to stay for a duration of 4-6 months because of her sick parents, can she stay there that long and re-enter with no issues? Thanks.

she needs her country's passport and the green card to travel. She will not be eligible for US passport till she becomes a citizen.

For stays abroad less than six months there are no issues, but if the possibility of stay extending beyond that exist she will be bettter off applying for reentry permit
