  • Address while you are away

I am planning to file a re-entry permit as I will be out of the country for a couple of years. Obviously, I will be vacating my apartment.

There is a requirement that I have to update USCIS for address change. So in this situation, is it ok to give one of my friends address to USCIS?

    Thanks.

You can not be gone for a "couple of years". You must return before you have been gone 2 years.

File AR-11 with your address abroad.

Thanks for pointing out about the 2 year requirement.

A follow up question on the address.. I am planning to use my friend's address as the temporary local address where USCIS can mail my re-entry permit. So that's why I was thinking of giving this address to USCIS on AR-11.

Please let me know if it will be ok.

      Thanks again..

There is a difference from US Mailing Address and US Residency Address or Abroad.

He can get your mail or you can get a PO Box, but you need to notify USCIS where you actually LIVE.

Also you file your address change with USCIS.

And your mailing address change (to your friend's if you want) with USPS. (United States Postal Service)

I looked at form AR-11 and it seems that you can mention only a US address. Even on the online verison of AR-11, it looks like that you can't put a foreign address.
