      reentry permit

I am in the same boat. I applied the reentry permit in November last year. I didn't even receive the receipt. How can I track down the status? Is it normal that I didn't receive the receipt? Should I ask for help?

You will have to be patient. It now takes roughly 9 to 10 months to get the permit in your hands. I know of 2 people who applied for their parent's permits last year and did not receive the travel documents until after the 9th month from the original application date. You can call their national customer service toll free number but you'll get the same answer. If you applied in November 2007 you should receive the permit by no later then September. There's nothing you can do at this point since USCIS is backlogged tremendously from previous pending applications and is trying very hard to catch up.

          Reentry permit

          ASM,

Thank you for your reply. So what you are saying that I don't need to worry about the receipt?

          Thanks,

            Thanks,

Has your check been cashed by USCIS? If you've received it back from the bank keep it in a safe place. This will serve as proof, if needed. You should be receiving a "notice of action" from them stating that your application has been received.

If you do not want to wait any longer then try the following if you have not received any communication from the USCIS. First, call their toll free number. Select the option that best fits your case. When asked for an "SSC number" select "do not have any". You will be connected with a live person. State your case and inquire about the receipt of your application.

You may also want to go on their website and make an appoinment via infopass.

If all your tried attempts fail to get a straight answer write a letter to the "Director of Immigration Services" at your local office. Keep a copy for your records. Send the letter "certified" with "return receipt requested" along with copies of the application and returned check to the attention of "DIS".

Remember, your inquiry is only being made since you have not received any correspondence from USCIS after filing of your application.

battelle - After applying for your REP, have you already left the US for your trip abroad?

                      Re-entry permit information

                      Hi:

I filed REP for my in-laws at the Nebraska Service Center on 23-MAY-2008. They cashed the checks of $385 each on 28-MAY-2008. Received Notice of Action for each of my in-laws on 31-MAY-2008. Received ASC Notice for fingerprinting and biometrics on 04-JUN-2008 scheduled at 9AM on 11-JUN-2008.

All I did different was when I submitted the application was I wrote on the outside of the envelope: EXPEDITE and I gave my e-mail address and fax number as mentioned in the I-131 instructions.

So I don't understand why it would take so long even to receive a receipt notice or ASC appointment for fingerprinting and biometrics.

Please let me know if you have any questions and if I can help.

                        Update on Re-entry permit

My in-laws received their physical Re-entry permit cards (passport style book) on July 1st, 2008. So it merely took 1 month and 7 days for everything from filing for it, to fingerprinting to getting the actual re-entry permit cards in mail.

Again, all I did for them is when filing I just wrote on the envelope outside to EXPEDITE the request, my fax number and e-mail address. Inside, I sent 4 pre-paid priority mail self addressed envelopes (2 for each parent). And of course the check for $385 x 2=$770 total.

Let me mention that they would have received the physical cards at least 7 days earlier but my mother-in-law had to go for fingerprinting twice since the first time wasn't good enough so that took a little longer.

Good luck to everybody who is trying to get their re-entry permits. Another bit of info, my in-laws applications were filed at the NSC.
