  • Another interesting situation

    Dear sirs,

I got a Green Card in 2006, after 4 years living in the US. In 2007, I accepted a work offer in Brazil (from an American company) and moved there (I'm Brazilian). I've been entering the US several times since, due to the fact that I need to attend several meetings at the company HQ in the US (presenting my GC). I've kept a US bank account, an US address, a Social Security and have been filing federal and state tax returns annually. I'm now living in Brazil for a little over a year and I still have the objective to move back to the US in the next year or so. I'm concerned about keeping my permanent residency and continue to enter the US with my GC. Do I need to file for a re-entry or any other form? If yes, can I do that from Brazil?
Thanks in advance for your time in this matter.

You are risking losing your permanent resident status for pro-longed absences... even though all the other stuff (paying taxes, etc) has helped you. You better file for a re-entry permit, you must do so in the USA and wait until you give the biometrics (fingerprints) before you leave.
