Resident Alien Travel 30 Days & Return With Expired Passport

My wife is a Vietnamese Citizen who just received her Resident Alien card here, about 3.5 years after coming here due to a conditional visa.

She wants to visit Viet Nam for 3 weeks in January, and her VN passport is expired.

Is the green card & an expired passport ok for the US Govt. for her re-entry, or should we apply for an expedited passport through the VN consulate here in the US?

Bottom line, will she be delayed or denied because her VN passport is expired?

Any help is appreciated...

She can NOT travel with an expired passport PERIOD.

Any international travel requires an UNEXPIRED valid passport. It is a MUST, no exceptions. Contact your consulate for renewing the passport.
