I am a British subject married to an American citizen and had lived in the United States of America for the past eleven years. On the 21st April 2008 my husband and I had to return to England to be near my daughter and grandson who had both developed ongoing health problems. We cannot say for sure when we would return to live in the United States. Therefore at the end of April 2009, we would have been in England for a whole year.
In order to maintain my status as a( permanent resident in the United States), would you be kind enough to inform me of any necessary steps I need to take. I have a son and four grandchildren living in Chicago and we will be visiting them from time to time. We do file joint return income tax to the U.S.
