just dont do anything

just dont do anything and your green card will be invalidated on its own............... secondly if you want the trouble of going to a US counsulate you can definately go and surrender it................

does anyone know if a one can surrender a green card and request a multiple visit visa instead. My mom/dad cannot meet the requirement of traveling every year to keep their GC valid. They have already applied for reentry permits twice and now with the whole finger print thing it is going to be a hassle, they just want to come visit for 2~3 months and then go back...

Not automatically. You would have to apply all over again and be eligible.
