  • Retention Question..

Hi I hope someone can help or has experience.

Last August, my spouse received this greencard after basically less than 6 months (based on marriage-I am citizen). We lived out of the US together as husband/wife for 15 years prior to this..

Our maiin reason for immigration was our child developed a medical condition. It is something controllable to a point but we are not sure if anything will change (for the worse again). We still own our business abroad and run it from the US which is challenging except for our trips there. It makes it difficult as this is how we make our living and provide for us and my husband family. Concurrently, my husband's parent we found out has cancer again, and my husband was before immigration the main caregiver for the parent /and is now in absentia in charge of the health care since the parent was recovering from cancer already since 2005. And, in addition, the country we are going back to has 'problems' right now (state of emergency/some civil unrest) so I am not srue how all of this will pan out for us or if it is best interest to be there...

My questions are~I've read all the re-entry stuff and wanted to know~ if you apply for this reentryfor 1 or 2 years):

FIRST*Can you use it multiple times? I obviously have ties here in the US and plan to visit my family as we have always done prior to GC a few times a year with my spouse and child. Is this possible? DO they get annoyed at you travelling back and forth with this permit more than a one time?

SECOND*We would consider giving up the card, however, our child's condition we are not sure if we may need to come back in that 1-2 years. If something happens, we would have to move back...If we were to give it up, do they 'frown' on us/me for applying again AFTER we have given it up once should we need to get it again?

Third**If you get the permit, how do they count your days/earn towards gaining citizenship?

Our other option is to stay put-he can apply for citizen in 1 year and 9 months....But that is not our main goal/reason for this whole thing. We just have other circumstances occurring now. I do wish they gave us some credit for his time in the US prior to receiving the card, as he did not go to his home country for 13 months prior (we came here not knowing we were going to stay...him as a visitor to check our child at doctor)....

To be honest we have so many complexities going on right now,(mostly medically s 2 different people) we are not sure what to do or how they will see our situation. I jsut don't want any problems as I do things above board...

Any input will help. I am going to see our lawyer tomorrow but I just wanted some feedback/experiences.

    Thank you!
