Green card airport

on the way to europe at the airport i gave a european passport and the lady who works there asked me if i have a green card to show her? i don't know why they need my green card if i go out of us?

They are required by US government to check if you have a visa or green card so this way they will have a list of people who aren't citizens arriving at the airport, it's about terrorism. Also, if you change planes flying to US on another country while coming from another country to US don't be surprised that you will get random inspection. Happened to me few times, most visa and green card holders will get random inspections. (To my knowledge)
