  • Re-entry permit

I have green card for 10 years and intend to travel out of US.
I need to visit my home country for long pending legal /property matters and my programme is not of fix tenure. It may settel early or take long time.

I intend to apply ofr reentry permit from USCIS so in case if I have to stay longer, i can manage.
(1)Is applying for reentry permit is good option?or IS THERE ANY OTHER OPTION?
(2)Can I deny admission at port of entry?
(3)If my work completes earlier, can I enter in US earlier, say after 4-6 months aftre departure?

    Thank you

    1. If you have lived here for 10 years why not apply for citizenship as you do not have to have these rules of 6 months... (just a suggestion -- I don't know what your situation it)

    2. If you have stayed over 6 months and the officer asks you at POE, you cannot lie and he may refuse you and ask you to apply at consulate for re entry.

    3. Its never an issue if you enter earlier, re entry is for a max period of 2 years and if you enter anytime earlier its fine.

I would suggest that you do not use it if you can do without it as you get to apply for it only once... so why not use it when you really need to stay beyond 6 months.
