Hi, I am an GC holder and citizen of India. I have a very long name
( say : YYYY X, YYYYYYYYYYYY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB) and would like to change to a shorter form (say YYYY X, AAAAAAAAAAAAA). I read the USCIS procedure to make legal change using form I-90 and I will be following those. My quesiton is related to this process and I would appreciate if anyone could comment on my below question which will be very helpful for me.
1. On I-90 form instruction it says that I need to submit Original Court Order which approved my name change. Should I have to get the court order from India or could I do it here in local county court in US?
2. Is a court order required for non-US citizens or just if we make changes to our Indian Passport and submit it with I-90 works?
3. If anyone has done name change via court order in US, could you share how this process is? do I need a lawyer or can I do it myself? how difficult it is? how much time does it take in the court? what documents we need to furnish? fees? etc.
4. Before applying for name change on GC, should I need to make changes to my Indian passport first? or I can do that after making name changes to GC?
Please help me share your thoughts.
Thanks
Shaan
