  • My 18 month extension is about to expire...

I filed to have the conditions removed from my green card in December 2019, my GC expired January 2020, received notice that I may stay on my previous status for 18 months but that date is July this year. What happens after that? Is there a further extension I can apply for?
    TIA.

You can get an I-551 stamp. But note that even if you don't get an I-551 stamp, you remain a legal permanent resident for as long as the application is pending, with the right to work and live in the US. You just won't have proof of your status, but that mostly won't affect your daily life (though in some states it may be hard to renew your driver's license).

p.s. have you applied for naturalization yet?

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thanks, thats what I've heard from a few sources now - googled, spoke to a lawyer and a friend who was in the same situation.
No I haven't applied for naturalization yet, but thats next on my to-do list. (I'm aware that I am able to do so.)

I'm in the same situation. My extension already expired a couple of days ago. But I'm really qorried, because I just moved out of the state and I need to renew my license, also I'm looking for job and I won't have any proof of legal residency here. What do you do in these cases?

          What state are you in?

My extension letter expired on June first, called 30 days before expiration and got an infopass. they stamped my passport and I was able to travel overseas with it.
If you are getting your passport stamp and planning to travel make sure to tell to the USCIS officer so he will let you keep your green card otherwise they will keep it.
I was able to travel to Europe and on the way back in US I did my Immigration check as usual, they did only a further check in a separate room that took 10 minutes. Very kind and friendly.
            Good luck!
