Converting i751 from joint to waiver

My wife passed away last month . We have jointly filed our i751 in jan2021. I already have my i797c . I would like to travel to India visit my family before I ask uscis to convert my i751 from joint to waiver.

Is this possible? What problems i may run into? If I ask to convert i751 to waiver petition will they be sending me a new i797c and my old one won't be valid? I am planning to go to India for 3 weeks.

I am sorry about your wife and hope you are doing better. Hope you can get visit your family without any issues.

My thinking was I797 should be okay since dont think it mentions anything related to joint filing on the notice. The notice along with expired green card should allows the individual to entry and exit the country even without the spouse.
