Abandonment of Green Card in U.S.

Hi.

Can a green card be returned before leaving the U.S.? If so, where would this be done? I have researched and know that abroad the form I-407 is submitted to the appropriate U.S. Embassy or consulate, but can't find any information on returning before leaving.

If you could let me know where to look, I would appreciate it.

Submit Form I-407 at the U.S. embassy/consulate.

Or do nothing at all for a long time and your green card would be considered invalid automatically.
