RE-Entry Permit Question!! calling all experts:)

My mom has a GC and a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit expired in Oct 2010. The question is how soon after the re-entry permit expires, does she need to come back to the US? Is it within 6 months?or immediately?

Note: she did make a trip to the US in 2010 and left for India in Aug end.

The re-entry permit details don't specify how long after the expiration of permit can you enter the US. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Posting an update after consulting a lawyer for the benefit of others. Once th ere-entry permit expires, it is not a factor. My mom can take a chance and come back within a yr since her last visit. But it is best that the overseas trip is less than 6 months to avoid all the scrutiny at immigration ck point.
