  • Reentry Permit question

    1. If one plan to be outside the US for more than 6 months but less than 1 year, does one need to apply for Reentry permit ?

    2. Can one file a reentry permit and leave US after the biometrics/fingerprint appointment, but before getting the reentry permit approved ?

    3. If one does that, if the reentry permit is denied, can one go back to the US ? Again, this person is going to be outside the US for less than 1 year.

    4. After the reentry permit is sent to USCIS, how long in average does it take to be finger printed ?
And, how long after that one will get the reentry permit ?

    Thank you.

      Thank you for your reply.

About question #1, I read the following on the I-131 instruction under "Who may file Form I-131 ?" :
"If you stay outside the US for less than 1 year, you are not required to apply for a Reentry Permit. You may reenter the US on your Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551)."

But, your answer said "yes". Did you mean that it's not required, but it is recommended ? Or, did they change the law that requires it now ?

Also, on question #3, would you kindly elaborate ?

      Thanks again.
