Indian Passport Without Last Name

Hi Guru's,

We (myself and my wife) have Green Cards and would like to take our daughter (9 months) to USA with us. So - we have applied at the US Embassy for a transportation letter.

My daughter has an Indian passport - and she does not have any 'Last Name (or surname)' and only 'First Name (or Given Name)'. Could any of please tell me whether this will be an issue at the US Embassy?

I am sure that many Indians passports have just one name

Please advice whether to change the passport to add a last name or not? Changing the passport is very difficult here.

Do you have last name in your passport ?. Passport office wud have given you the passport on basis of some information that you provided them. On the forms do you recollect providing this infor ? it really annoys me if you forgot such a important information.

Get passport corected before you apply for US embassy's letter. OR if you have applied for a US transport letter..then Get this sorted at Indian embasy in US.

I dont know if you really need a transportation letter for ur daughter though..But still i will suggest you go and get passport corrected first. Your daughter will curse you in future unless u get this issue fixed !!!
