  • working overseas with GC

I am working in the middle east and left the US end of oct 2010, i went back in June 2011 for a week and immigration were asking me loads of questions and were really rude at JFK, someone told me that they can take my green card away especially if they know i am working overseas. When i got the job they never told me anything like this, they said it would be fine as i was getting paid in USD! I was a bit too naive thinking that it would be that easy!!
I am going back to the US in feb for a month, i am hoping they dont say anything this time :s
In 1 post i saw that for citizenship if you leave the US for more than 6 months then your counter will be reset to 0 days, is this true? I was hoping that i have had my GC for 4 yrs if i moved back next year, i could apply for citizenship as i would have been in the country for over 2.5 yrs out of the 5.
Also i am flying out of mexico after crossing the border from the US, if i fly back into mexico instead of US next time i am back, is there any way that the US will know i left the country? as they dont check you as you leave across the border.
    Thanks

    Hi Shazb
It's very difficult to work outside the with a GC, however you maybe exempted but I'm not exactly sure you need to check with an immigration lawyer to clarify, only if the X Co. you are working with is a US Co.

If you think immigration don't have records of your departures, then my friend you are very wrong, because if you arrive in any US airport from abroad and then they pick you to go for a secondary inspection, then there is where the they will provide you with A to Z records. You need to make a decision very quick on what you need to do and what is better for your future.
