Advice Needed: Returning to US after Reentry Permit?

I am a green card holder who received a reentry permit from the US about 18 months ago. The expiry date of the permit is February 2013.

If I would like to return to the US to start a new job, what process should I undertake to do so?

Just book the ticket and carry your passport, green card and reentry permit to enter the U.S.

Would I be able to employed by a UK company and live/reside in the US?

I thought I read that you need to spend at least 6 months of the year in the US to keep your green card, but I couldn't find if you needed to be employed by a US company?
