  • US Bank Account and Tax Returns

    Hi everyone,

I was working in the US on H1b visa and moved back to India. I have not yet closed down my bank account there as I use it for some loan payments and other things.

I was filing tax returns till the 2008 Financial Year (I moved back in 2009).

    My questions -

    1. Is it legal/ok to still continue my bank account there?

    2. Do I have to file tax returns now for Financial Year 2009? I have no income from the US in 2009 (Note: There are some cheque deposits to my US bank account which are payments for some consulting work I did for US clients but I pay tax for that in India and the clients have not deducted anything at source).

    Thanks,
    Ram.

What is (or was) your legal status (immigration status) in the US? When exactly you moved back in 2009?
