Need help on traveling out of Canada and re-entering on TRV

I completed by undergrad studies from Canada and am currently job hunting. I am on a study permit that expires on Nov 30, 2014. I also have a Temporary resident visa (TRV) that expires on the same day. I applied for the Canadian work permit on Sep 24, 2014.

Can i travel to the US before I receive the work permit?
Will I be allowed to re-enter Canada to continue my job hunt, considering I plan to return by Oct 20th?
