I am a Canadian married to an American Citizen. We are currently living in the US (I am in the process of getting my green card). Does anybody know if I can sponsor my husband to get him a residency card for Canada if I am not currently living there and if we don't have immediate plans to move there. We are just thinking that if the right job comes up in Canada for him we would move but it would be much easier if we already had the immigration matters sorted out.

Yes
Canadian permanent resident's cannot sponsor their spouse or family members from outside Canada. There may be a possibility of getting around that if they have a permanent mailing address or a mortgage and bank account and can prove they have been living there they might be able to continue to work elsewhere.
As a Canadian Citizen, you can sponsor your spouse under 'Family Class Immigration' from both inside or outside of the country. The applications do take time though, at the minute sponsoring from outside the country is taking between 3 to 18 months (but because your husband is American, this might be quite a short period of time.)
So, yes, you can if your a Canadian Citizen.
