Married to American Moving to Canada

Hi I am married to an American, we decided in September that I would move down to the US and we would apply for US residency, however we have since changed our minds. So I have been visiting him since then (accept I went home at Christmas and then came back) We have decided to go back to Canada, I am just starting to look into this as of right now and I have a couple of questions.

Do I have to be in Canada to sponsor my husband, I don't want to leave him or at least want to stay as long as I can until his paperwork is almost through. Does anyone have a similar situation?
