I know someone who was told to appear for a deferred inspection. He was convicted of sexual abuse in late 1990s. But then the customs officer followed up without having received any new docs from this person and said that they did not intend to move forward with the inspection and that he should come in so that they can return his green card. Does this sound above board, or do you think it sounds like a trick to get the person to show up for sure (not that they have any reason to think he wouldn't show except maybe the seriousness of the crime)? Thank you for any insight!
