Two I797's Which one to use for H4 EAD

I am in the process of applying H4 EAD for my wife. I have recently renewed my H1 and my wife H4.

old H1/H4 is valid till May 11 2016
New H1/H4 is valid from May 12 2016 to 2018.

While applying for H4 EAD which one should I use? Can I use the new H1/H4&I94 as they are not yet active? If I use old H1/H4 will the EAD validity depends on the expiry date of H4?
