  • I got a SSN under DHS when I was on F1 and now I have an EAD what to do?

Hi, so I am a little confused as to what I should do here, I was an international student and got an on-campus job 3 years ago that allowed me to apply for a social under DHS authorization. I got married to a US citizen about a year ago and already applied for adjustment of status and I am currently waiting on my green card but already got my EAD. I got a full time job offer just last week and I told them that I have an EAD and waiting on a green card. Now my question is do I need to do anything about the social (adjust it or something to reflect my new situation) before giving it to my employer? And I have had trouble in the past when using this SSN as it never actually verifies me when I am prompted to enter it (like for the obtaining a credit card or my w2 online) it always tells me that they were unable to verify me after I enter the SSN. This worries me because my employer said they want to run a background check. Is it valid to be worried? Thank you for your help.

You shouldn't need to do anything regarding the SSN.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

My personal opinion, I think you should take the EAD and your SSN to social security administration so that both could be aligned together to reflect your new status and you could be verified anywhere.
      Best of luck.

I agree that a visit to your nearest Social Security Administration office is in order

Hopefully reissuing your SS card will clear up your record issues
