EAD / H4 visa

I and my husband need to travel outside US. The Current status is

Myself - H4 Visa stamped till Dec25 2003. Have used EAD and currently working.

My Husband - Has a valid H1B stamped till Dec25 2003. Has EAD but not used till now.

Question - Does either or both of us (myself and husband) need to apply for Advance Parole for travel outside USA. If yes, can we apply and go out even if the advance parole is not received. Is it ok if that is received before re-entry into USA.

I'd be interested to know how you obtained an EAD as an H4 when info I've read says your not allowed to work.

Nothing complicated about it...
When an I-485 is filed, the person can apply for an EAD. That is completely independent of the H4. As soon as the person uses the EAD, the person's H4 becomes invalid.

You have to wait till you get your GC processed to the 485 stage before a H4 can get an EAD.
